Breast augmentation has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the world and researchers believe that in the future the amount of Americans who opt for the procedure will only increase.
Before going in for surgery, it’s important for potential patients to know what to expect both before and after their procedure.
What to Expect from Your Surgeon
It’s important to make sure that the plastic surgeon you choose is board certified before you go under the knife.
Along with explaining the surgery, telling you about the different types of implants, the various areas the incision can be made and what to expect following the surgery, your surgeon should talk to you about the following:
- Anesthesia
- The recovery process
- Risks associated with the surgery and potential complications
- Your obligations as a patient
What to Do Before Surgery
It’s important to stop smoking at least 10 days before your surgery since studies have shown that smokers don’t heal as well as non-smokers.
Avoiding aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications at least 10 days before your surgery is also recommended, since they increase the risk of blood thinning, which can prevent clots from happening.
