Small Amount of Patients Have Surgery According to Dr. Michael Miller from the Ohio State Medical Center, about 50 percent of mastectomy patients are eligible for follow-up reconstructive surgery. However, due to a lack of knowledge regarding the safety and benefits of reconstructive surgery, only about 10 percent of these patients actually get surgery.
